"The Red Grimoire of Limoges," James softly spoke the book title as he ran a hand over the cover as if to confirm its reality.
"It's rumored to have been written by Pierre Aupetit, an apostate priest who lived in Fossas, a small hamlet within the Barony of Limoges. It was written three hundred-ninety years ago."
Derek Minkins, a purveyor of antiquities and James' friend, replied and continued speaking of the legends regarding the book.
"Some believe that a blank page appears among the writings contained, and an invisible hand fills the page with a spell suited to the darker desires of the owner. Even more remarkable is that the writing is in the language common to the individual owner."
He stood and approached the door, then turned and smiled at James.
"You're its owner now. You may find a spell to end your problem with your landlord and his sons.
James offered a half-smile as he replied. "I just might give it a try."
